When you book an Outreach Program, we will send
a museum educator and all of the supplies for the program. We will
travel a 50-mile radius from the St. Augustine Lighthouse for
Outreach programs.

Down Below the Waves
Investigate sunken ships and examine the artifacts. Help to solve
the mysteries and tell the unknown stories. This is a highly

Earthways, Waterways
Swim, slither, step, snap and sniff with the creatures of our
coastline. Learn how we, as the human inhabitants, have interacted
with this maritime environment over time. Learn how each of us can
take an active part in the stewardship of this essential ecology.

Fee for an Assembly Program: $2.00 per student with a minimum of 50
students or $100.00. A transportation fee will be charged for

Classroom Presentations
Underwater Archeology
Find out how to become an underwater archeologist from a practicing
archeologist and member of LAMP (Lighthouse Archeological Maritime
Program). Learn about recent discoveries and unsolved mysteries.
Exploring the Marine Hammock
Take a virtual trip through the Marine Hammock at the St. Augustine
Lighthouse & Museum with Gail Compton, our Museum Naturalist, as
she talks about the interaction between the lighthouse keepers and
the land.
Fee for a classroom presentation: $2.00 per student with a
minimum of 50 students or $100.00. A transportation fee will be
charged for distances over 50 miles.

After School Programs
Education Department staff will conduct short-term residencies in
cooperation with existing after school programs for underserved
students. All residencies will be topically based in maritime culture.
For example, a staff member would work with the same group of up to 25
students for1½ hours after school for a set period of time towards a
culminating community event. During the residency, the students would
research, write and perform ballad(s) to enhance reading, writing and
communications skills while leaning about history.
Fee for after school programs: $2 per student with a minimum
of 15 students.

Traveling Sea Chest
A series of 5, 2-hour maritime history activities for 3rd-5th grade
students contained in a sea chest. The activities will serve many
Sunshine Standards and will include teaching materials and follow-up
activities. The activities are:
- Ships and Sailing
- A Sailor's Life
- Shipwreck Passage (a game)
- Discovery and Documentation
- Preservation and the Museum
Schools are invited to have optional outreach program(s) by museum
staff to augment certain activities.
Transportation Fee: 0-50 miles, $50; 50-75 miles $75; 75-100 miles $100;
Damage Deposit: $100.00.
