The Nation's Oldest Port Heritage Area

Welcome to Northeast Florida--home to the Nation’s Oldest Port. Here, a rich maritime landscape, converging waterways, and the Atlantic Ocean have uniquely shaped culture and traditions. Coastal Nassau, Duval, St. Johns and Flagler counties hold a special sense of place found nowhere else.

Explore our region’s stories, people and resources and the special contributions they have made to Florida’s and America’s heritage. You can learn about National Heritage Areas, how a region attains this Congressional designation, and what stories and resources make us a special place in America.

We need your participation and support. Through a local feasibility study, we are working with community members and organizations to capture these unique stories, resources, cultural traditions, recreational offerings, landmarks and businesses that contribute to this region’s sense of place and economic vitality.

Register for the Heritage Area e-newsletter to stay current on heritage area progress and happenings.  Before leaving the website, we would appreciate your letter of support (see sample letter).  Thank you for your interest in this community-based, voluntary initiative to preserve, interpret, and share our region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
