Upcoming Events at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum
Exciting events happen every day at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum! Below is a short list of events that occur on the grounds every week, be sure to check them out during your next visit.
Daily (Schedules vary by tour)
Gain access to areas normally off limits to the public by taking one of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum’s guided tours. Tours include access to areas that are not open to the public, including the artifact conservation lab where lighthouse archaeologists are working to preserve historical pieces recovered from shipwrecks off the St. Augustine coast.
Tuesday – Thursday (Mornings)
Three mornings a week, volunteer craftsmen are on-site building traditional wooden boats. Using an old steamer box to soften the wood, each board is carefully molded into the keel, ribs and planking of a functioning vessel. Once a year, a completed boat is auctioned off to raise money for the maritime preservation and educational programs at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.
Monday, Wednesday, Friday (Afternoons)
In the north corner of the Keepers’ Museum gallery a trio of talented model shipbuilders are carefully completing a replica of the HMS Victory that was donated to the lighthouse. From the 3,000 dime-size copper plates on the hull to the cannon harnesses on the deck, the builders have spared no detail in their work. Stop by to see the work in progress and learn more about maritime history during your next visit.
In addition to tour discounts, gift shop savings and many more perks, members of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum are also invited to one members-only Dark of the Moon or Lost Ships tour each year. Nights of Lights at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum
December 1st - January 1st
Each year, the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum sparkles from November through January with festive holiday decorations and lights. From the porches of the Keepers' House to the tower itself, nautical-themed Christmas trees, wreaths, evergreen boughs and red bows bring Christmas cheer to the lighthouse during St. Augustine's nationally renowned Nights of Lights Celebration. Folks from all over the country send in their nautical ornaments to adorn a Christmas tree in the Keepers' House while a second tree casts a white glow inside the base of the tower. Visitors will feel the festive holiday atmosphere in the air from the moment they step into the Visitor's Center.
The highlight of the holiday season at the lighthouse is Luminary Night, which takes place on the first Wednesday of December. Visitors and community members are invited to enter the lighthouse grounds for a free evening of children's holiday crafts, warm refreshments, live music performances (including a string quartet inside the lighthouse tower) and an up-close look at the museum's Christmas decor. This is a special evening the whole family will enjoy at St. Augustine's iconic lighthouse and museum.
On the first Saturday of every March, the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum joins the Junior Service League of St. Augustine for a special day of events celebrating our historic lighthouse. The Lighthouse 5K walk and fun run precedes an evening of music, refreshments, kids activities and lighthouse climbs (of course!). It's a great event for the whole family to enjoy!
