Dear Visitor,
The mission of St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum is to discover,
preserve, present, and keep alive the history of our nation's oldest
port as symbolized by the St. Augustine Lighthouse.
In support of this mission, the education department presents the
story of the nation's oldest continuously occupied port through tours,
outreach programs, events, camps, and lectures.
At the core of the museum's education efforts is an active program
for school groups visiting the museum. Highly trained docents guide
students back to a time of exploration and discovery to learn about
our rich maritime heritage including the local shrimping and
boat-building industries. Our programs are designed to be engaging,
fun, and educational while complementing grade-specific state
curriculum standards.
We invite everyone to discover the important work of lighthouse
advocacy and historic preservation carried out today by the St.
Augustine Lighthouse & Museum. We invite you to celebrate our 443
years of military heritage and coastal defense and to embrace the
engaging stories of St. Augustine's marine industrial period. Come
learn about the exciting research carried out by our LAMP
archaeologists.
We encourage everyone to join our membership family and support the
important work being done here at St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum.
Help us keep the story alive for generations to come.
Sincerely,
Kathy A. Fleming Executive Director
